Mastodons Out-Hit WKU in Game Two but Drop Doubleheader

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team dropped a non-league doubleheader at Western Kentucky on Saturday (Feb. 24).
Game One – Western Kentucky 10, Mastodons 1 (scheduled seven-inning game)
The 'Dons scored in the first on a Grant Thoroman RBI single. WKU tallied two runs in the first and third but opened it up in the sixth with six runs.
Nick Sutherlin had two hits for the Mastodons.
Blake Cavill and Ethan Lizama each had a home run for the Hilltoppers.
Game Two – Western Kentucky 9, Mastodons 5
The 'Dons held a 3-1 lead after four innings thanks to single runs in the second, third and fourth. Brooks Sailors, Nick Sutherlin and Camden Karczewski each had a run batted in.
WKU tied it in the fifth with two-run double. They opened it up with a six-spot in the sixth.
The 'Dons out-hit WKU 13-6 but stranded 14 runners. Five 'Dons had multiple hits. Sailors, Jacob Walker and Jackson Micheels each added a walk to their two hits.
The Mastodons fall to 1-5. WKU improves to 5-2. The two teams will finish the four-game series on Sunday (Feb. 25).
