Nine-Run Seventh Inning Lifts 'Dons to 12-10 Victory at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team fought back from down 9-1 after three innings to defeat the Butler Bulldogs 12-10 Tuesday.
The Mastodons were trailing 6-0 in the third inning when Grant Thoroman put Purdue Fort Wayne on the board with a two-out solo home run.
Down 9-1 in the top of the fourth, Ben Higgins hit a two-run shot to make it a 9-3 game.
The 'Dons took their first lead of the game in the nine-run seventh. The 'Dons used small ball in the inning, never recording an extra base hit in the frame.
Carson Caudill (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for the 'Dons. The right-hander went 1.2 shutout innings while giving up one hit, allowing one walk and striking out one. Kevin Fee threw 1.2 innings to get the save.
Higgins led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 2-for-5 in the game with a double, a home run and three RBI. Thoroman was 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Nick Sutherlin also chipped in, going 2-for-5 for Purdue Fort Wayne with a walk and an RBI.
Four Mastodons had multiple hits in the ballgame. The 'Dons drew seven walks in the game.
The 'Dons are now 4-9. Butler falls to 4-6. The 'Dons are at Missouri this weekend.
