Sabol Records 8 Ks in Loss to Youngstown State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Senior Carter Sabol punched out eight Youngstown State hitters over six innings of work, but it was not enough as the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons fell to the Penguins 12-3.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Sabol (4-4) tossed six innings, with a walk and six runs for Purdue Fort Wayne (13-25, 7-10 Horizon League).
At the plate, Ben Higgins went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Brooks Sailors had a double and a walk.
The 'Dons led 2-0 after an inning. Higgins knocked in one and Jackson Micheels drove in the other. YSU tied it with two runs in the third and scored in each inning the rest of the way except for the seventh. Youngstown State (7-30, 5-12 Horizon League) was led offensively by senior RJ Sherwood, who went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs and two runs knocked in. Braden Gebhardt threw the final five innings to get the win. He is 1-0.
Purdue Fort Wayne and Youngstown State close out the series on Sunday (April 21) with a single game.
