Mastodons Sweep Saturday Doubleheader

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne softball took both games of a Saturday (Apr. 6) doubleheader with Robert Morris to earn two Horizon League wins and the Mastodons' first league series win of the year.
Game 1 - Purdue Fort Wayne 5, Robert Morris 2
The 'Dons took the lead in the first inning and never lost it. Aglaia Rudd doubled to center to bring home Bailey Manos and Grace Hollopeter and give the 'Dons a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, Gwen McMenemy brought home a run with an RBI single. Two batters later, Hollopeter's single brought home an extra insurance run to give the 'Dons a 5-0 advantage.
Gracie Brinkerhoff got the win in a complete game effort. She scattered nine hits across seven innings and struck out six without walking anyone. She was able to get out of several jams, stranding eight runners on base. Madison DeVault took the loss for RMU allowing five runs in 3.2 innings.
Game 2 - Purdue Fort Wayne 3, Robert Morris 2
Back-to-back bases loaded walks in the bottom of the seventh lifted the 'Dons to a win in game two.
A single from McKenna Minton led off the bottom of the seventh. McMenemy walked to put two on before Manos singled to load the bases. Rudd and Hang both worked walks to bring home two runs and win the game.
Runs in the middle innings gave Robert Morris the lead early in the game.Two singles scored a run for RMU and gave them a 1-0 lead in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning, Rudd repeated her performance from the first game and doubled to score Manos from second and tie the game.
RMU re-took the lead in the fourth inning on an error, but the 'Dons
Alanah Jones threw seven innings to earn the win and allowed just one earned run while striking out six with no walks.
Purdue Fort Wayne improved to 7-24, 2-7 in the Horizon League. Robert Morris falls to 10-15, 5-4 in the HL. The Mastodons are back in action on Tuesday (April 9) for the first of a three-game series at Cleveland State.
