Mastodons Break Two School Records

SOUTH BEND, Ind. AND ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field team broke two school records at Notre Dame's Blue-Gold Invitational on Friday (Dec. 5) and also competed at the GVSU Holiday Open.
Four Mastodons completed their first 300 meters at Notre Dame, with Lillian Hurd breaking the school record. The sophomore finished in fourth with a time of 39.32. Freshman Lena James was the next 'Don to cross the finish line, taking 10th with a time of 41.03. Aniya Young (41.11) and Harmony Johnson (41.77) also completed the event, finishing in 12th and 16th.
Sanayah Ruffin broke the 500 meter school record with a time of 1:15.83, taking third in her first collegiate finish in the event. Amelie Mach also topped the previous school record, finishing in 1:19.15 for sixth.
Young (7.64) and Johnson (7.65) led Purdue Fort Wayne in the 60 meter dash, finishing in second and third. Hurd finished the event with a personal record time of 7.72 and in seventh. James (7.74) and Tiara Gray (7.77) finished their first collegiate 60 meter dash in ninth and 11th.
Emery Carrico placed second in the shot put with a mark of 12.91 meters. Ali Sparks threw for 12.58 meters to take fifth place.
Sparks also earned fifth in the weight throw with 16.13 meters. Francesca Carlo claimed a personal record 14.54 meters for eighth. Ellie Zagel threw a mark of 12.19 meters for her first collegiate weight throw.
Kynzlei Bassett (18:05.71) and Faith Allen (18:09.07) ran personal record 500 meters at GVSU. Ava Milligan completed her first collegiate 5000 meters at the meet, finishing in 19:13.09.
Diana Hodges (2:31.69) and Bethany Lockridge (2:39.87) completed their first collegiate 800 meters at the Blue-Gold Invitational, finishing in eighth and 13th.
The Mastodons host the Mastodon Invitational on January 17th for their next meet.
