Josiah Bird Breaks School Record at Polar Bear Invite

MARION, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field team completed their first meet of the outdoor season, the Polar Bear Invite hosted by Indiana Wesleyan, on Saturday (March 22). Freshman Josiah Bird capped off the meet by breaking the discus school record.
In the last event of the meet, Josiah Bird threw a school-record 47.78 discus throw mark in his outdoor collegiate debut to earn fourth. Hunter Crew placed ninth with a 45.74 meter toss.
Sam Dunnett took first in his collegiate debut in the 1500 meters, completing the event in 4:00.43.
Michael Drohosky cleared a personal record mark of 2.01 meters to place second at the meet.
Boden Genovese took third in the 800 meters with a personal record time of 1:55.42.
Freshman Damien Keys leaped 6.58 meters to take fourth in his outdoor debut in the long jump.
Andrew Roman cleared 4.50 meters in the pole vault, finishing fifth.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Genovese, Dunnett, Colin Gasson and Tyler Hess took fifth at the meet with a time of 3:30.87.
Crew threw a personal record 49.41 meter hammer throw for 10th. Owen Kaufman placed 13th with 47.09 meters. Caden Bird tossed a personal record 39.92 meters for 34th.
The Mastodons will split up to take on the WashU Distance Carnival (March 27-28) and the Indiana State Pacesetter Sports Invitational (March 29).
