Softball Sweeps Detroit Mercy With 10-5 Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - All nine starters reached base safely in Purdue Fort Wayne's 10-5 softball win over Detroit Mercy on Friday (March 28) afternoon. The win gave the Mastodons a three-game sweep of the Titans.
Alanah Jones (6-9) started in the circle and picked up the win. The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out three. Aubrey Zachary got the save.
Offensively, Aglaia Rudd, went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and three runs batted in. Bailey Manos was 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Brooke Lickey also chipped in for Purdue Fort Wayne, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI. The Mastodons benefited from eight walks in the game.
The Mastodons took a 5-0 lead after four innings, scoring one in the first and two in the third and fourth innings. In the third it was a Rudd two-RBI double. In the fifth, a single from Manos brought home Gwen McMenemy and Grace Hollopeter.
The Titans gained ground, closing the gap to 5-4 until Purdue Fort Wayne added two insurance in the fifth and three more in the sixth. The 'Dons never trailed in the game.
Abby Klaft went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for the Titans. Claire Borg took the loss for the Titans.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 8-16 (4-2 Horizon League). Detroit Mercy is 5-17 (2-4 Horizon League). The Mastodons are in action again on Friday (April 4) in league play at Youngstown State.
