Makenna Dommer Crowned Discus Champion at #HLTF Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program ranks second after the first day of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, led by Makenna Dommer's discus performance.
After day one of competition, the Mastodons place second in the standings with 20 points. Youngstown State holds the lead with 33 points.
Dommer earned the title of discus champion after throwing a 41.66 meter mark, earning 10 points for the 'Dons. McKayla Henry earned 10th with 37.28 meters. Emery Carrico threw 37.18 meters for 11th. Ali Sparks took 13th with a 36.44 meter toss.
Riley Tate finished the 10,000 meters in 36:01.62 for fourth, tallying five more points for Purdue Fort Wayne. Lydia Carrell added in another point in the event, finishing in eighth with a time of 36:58.62. Faith Allen finished in 39:23.52 for 15th.
Ellie Zagel led the Mastodons in the javelin throw. Her mark of 37.44 meters took sixth, notching three points for the 'Dons. Carrico added another point with an eighth-place finish on a 34.29 meter throw. Emilia Russell's 32.07 meter throw earned her 11th.
Zagel also leads the Purdue Fort Wayne entrees after day-one of the heptathlon. She notched 2963 points after the first day, running a personal-record 15.21 100 meter hurdles. Freshman Amelie Mach earned 2929 points, setting personal records in the 100 meter hurdles (14.44), shot put (8.58 meters) and 200 meter dash (25.26).
Ava Genovese's preliminary 1500 meters time of 4:38.66 earned her ninth and a spot in the finals. Faith Norris ran the event in 4:51.89 for 22nd.
