FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's and women's cross country teams are gearing up for its final race of the 2011 season, the NCAA Regional Meet hosted by the University of Toledo.
The 2011 women's field features 34 teams, while the men's field has 31 complete teams.
Leading the women's team this season has been Sarah Hutchings, who paced IPFW with a 15th place finish at the Summit League Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jordan Tomecek placed 25th at the conference meet over the 6,000-meter course, crossing the finish line in a time of 23:08.43.
The regional meet will also be at the 6,000-meter lenghth, which saw Julie Jeszenszky place 51st at the conference meet in 24:17, with Kayla Boyes finishing close behind in 56th.
On the men's side, the distance for the event will be 10,000-meters, nearly a 1.2 miles further than the typical 8,000-meter raced in collegiate cross country.
Steven Zimmerman has constantly topped his career best this season, as the senior's time of 27:42.9 at the Appalachian State Blue Ridge Open currently stands as his 8,000-meter career best. Zimmerman was the top finisher for IPFW at the conference championships, as the team's 2, 3, and 4 runners, Cody Sengthong, Taylor Crowell, and Vince Corona, respectively, had a pack time of just under seven seconds from second to fourth.
The gun goes off at the Regional meet for the men's race at noon on Saturday, with the women starting an hour and 15 minutes later.
