Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW men's basketball team enters their final two-game road swing in Southern Utah on Thursday night with a chance to finish anywhere from second to sixth in the standings for the upcoming Summit League postseason tournament. IPFW (17-10, 10-6) is currently in fourth place in the standings. Southern Utah (10-17, 6-10) has clinched a spot in the eight-team dance. They are on a roll, winning three of their last four including a huge 80-68 win over second-place IUPUI on the Jaguars' home floor last week.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons are led in scoring by sophomore guard Frank Gaines (6-5/190/Ft. Lauderdale, FL) who is averaging 14.6 points a game. Senior guard Ben Botts (6-0/170/Muncie, IN) is second on the team at 13.7 points a game, and junior guard Jeremy Mixon (6-1/175/Indianapolis, IN) rounds out the top-three scorers for the 'Dons at 10.4 points a contest.

With the win over NDSU, head coach Dane Fife has again broken the D-I record for wins in a season at IPFW. The 'Dons (17-10) also set a record for most wins in a Summit League regular season (10-6). The Mastodons are 14-1 in games this season when leading at the half, 11-0 when outrebounding opponents and 7-1 when shooting above 50% from the floor. IPFW is 9-0 when opponents make 20 or fewer field goals, 4-1 when Ben Botts has four or more assists and 5-0 when Zach Plackemeier has six or more rebounds. Ok...one more...IPFW is 7-2 when Frank Gaines score 18 or more.
SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS
Southern Utah is led in scoring by junior forward Matt Massey (6-9/230/Brisbane, Australia) at 9.7 points a game. Senior guard Ryan Brimley (6-4/190/Sandy, UT) is second on the team in scoring at 9.6 ppg., while junior guard Ray Jones, Jr. (6-3/175/Little Rock, AR) rounds out the top-three for the Thunderbirds at 9.1 points per game.

The Thunderbirds have outrebounded their past five opponents. Jackson Stevenette has scored in double-figures in each of the last three games. SUU is 6-0 when holding opponents to 19 or fewer field goals. IPFW leads the overall series with SUU, 6-2. On December 4 in Fort Wayne, Zach Plackemeier led five Mastodons in scoring with 19 points as IPFW topped Southern Utah, 76-66 at the Memorial Coliseum. The Thunderbirds turned the basketball over 16 times, leading to 11 IPFW points. SUU outshot IPFW, 58.7% to 41.0%.
