Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW men's tennis team fell in close matches against the UMKC Kangaroos, 7-0, but swept the Centenary Gents, 7-0, moving to 9-12 overall and 2-3 in Summit League play. Due to weather, the matches were moved indoors to the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club in Fort Wayne.

Against the Kangaroos, who are undefeated in conference play at 3-0, the 'Dons lost in three close double matches. At the No. 1 position, Francisco Sigaud and Roberto Cabrini fell 8-6, while also suffering an 8-6 loss was the No. 2 position of Daniel Kang and Junya Saruta. The IPFW duo of Tony Kanavos and Dean Guyer fell in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (5).

In singles play, IPFW remained in close play with UMKC but lost each match, including losing three of the matches in three-sets and one in a tiebreaker. After claiming the first set at the No. 2 position, 6-7 (3), Sigaud fell in the next two sets, 6-1, 6-2. At the No. 4 spot, Kang suffered a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 loss, while Saruta lost a tough match at the No. 5 position, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-5. IPFW's Eduardo Sztrajtman fell 6-2 in the first set at the No. 6 spot and then fell in a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6 (5).

After a hard fought battle with UMKC, IPFW bounced back against CC after not dropping a match in singles or doubles play.

In doubles action, the 'Dons largest win, 8-3, was by the team of Guyer/Kanavos at No. 3. Saruta/Kang were victorious at the No. 2 position, 8-4, while Cabrini/Sigaud edged past the Gents at the No. 1 spot, 8-6.

Against the Gents in singles play, the Mastodons won all six matches in two sets. No. 1 Cabrini won 6-2, 6-1, Guyer picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot and Saruta won the No. 5 position, 6-1, 6-1.

IPFW will close out conference play tomorrow against Oral Roberts. Match time is set for 10:00 a.m. (est) at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center on the campus of IPFW.
