Notre Dame defeated Eastern Michigan at Frank Eck Stadium by the final score of 12-4. Breck Ashdown earned his first career win as Connaughton was limited to just 31 pitches in 1.2 innings of work. The game was closer than the final score indicated for the first six innings. The turning point in the game was when Notre Dame posted six runs in the seventh putting the score at 12-4.

This 6-3, 205 right-hander is 1-0 on the year with an ERA of 3.38. He has pitched eight innings in his three appearances during the 2012 season. In those eight innings, Veerkamp has allowed eight hits and three earned runs.
The Irish began the 2012 season playing in the BIG EAST/Big Ten Challenge. They defeated Illinois (13-12) and Iowa (5-2), but dropped a single game to Purdue (15-8).
ND went on to sweep a three-game series against Hofstra, but took three-straight losses on the road at Texas State. The Fighting Irish split a pair of games against Michigan in the LSU Baseball Tournament. They also picked up a win over LSU and UTSA in the tournament setting.
The Irish most recently played in the Irish Baseball Classic held in San Antonio, Texas. That trip started off with two wins over Houston Baptist (7-3) and Kansas (1-0). The classic ended with two-straight losses to Indiana State (6-4, 6-1).
