Weaver Goes the Distance in Home Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Charles Weaver threw a complete game and Daren Boss led the offense with a 4-for-5 performance from the plate as the IPFW Mastodons defeated Nebraska Omaha in the 2012 home opener by the final score of 4-0.
IPFW scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning and a three-run fifth inning would give the 'Dons their sixth win of the season. Nebraska Omaha falls to 9-17 on the year after picking up two wins earlier this week.
IPFW put runners on base all afternoon as the team ended the game with 11 hits. Boss led the way with four, while Clay Hathaway did his part as the leadoff man with two. Boss scored two of the four runs for IPFW. Carter DeBoe and Malcolm White also scored.
White impacted the game in a big way with a two RBI double in the fifth inning. He ended the day with a game-high three RBI.
Boss got a hit to lead off the third inning. A DeBoe chopper through the right side of the infield allowed him to advance to third. White's first RBI of the day was a sacrifice fly as Boss gave IPFW the 1-0 lead.
The duo of Boss and White struck again in the fifth inning. Boss doubled to left center field as the leadoff man and DeBoe joined him on base after being hit by a pitch. A double steal moved each runner into scoring position and White delivered his fourth double of the season giving IPFW a 3-0 cushion. The lead would spread to 4-0 after Lucas Salerno drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Charles Weaver was quite impressive for IPFW on Friday afternoon. The junior right-hander threw a complete game and recorded five strikeouts. He limited the Mavericks to five hits and he only walked two batters.
IPFW will face Nebraska Omaha again tomorrow in game two of the three-game series. First pitch is slated for noon.
