FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Mastodons will travel to Cedar City, Utah to face the Thunderbirds in a four-game series starting on Thursday, April 19. These two clubs have similar records entering the weekend as IPFW is currently 11-24 after facing Oakland and Southern Utah is 10-24 after their series with Oral Roberts.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERBIRDS
Southern Utah most recently hosted Oral Roberts at Thunderbird Park. The series was shortened to just three games due to snow. The Golden Eagles won the opener 6-0 and then came back to win game one of a doubleheader on Friday 8-4. SUU won the nightcap 6-0.
Marcus Romero and Bo Cuthbertson are each hitting over .300 this season for the Thunderbirds. Romero leads the club at .333, while Cuthbertson is close behind at .322. Cuthbertson was named to the Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List after a great 2011 season. The award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. He has been named Summit League Player of the Week two times this season and his teammate David Headley has been selected once. Headley has only started in 12 games, yet he has played in 21 contests. He is hitting .294 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and 12 RBI's.
SUU will keep opposing pitchers on their toes as they are ranked 62nd in the country in stolen bases with 49. Romero leads the team with eight stolen bases, while Cuthbertson and Tariq Staton are tied for second with seven each. 14 different players have swiped at least one bag for Southern Utah this season.
Southern Utah starting pitcher Justin Neubauer earned his second career Pitcher of the Week award Monday after tossing a complete game shutout to help the Thunderbirds take a 6-0 victory over Oral Roberts last Friday. The junior southpaw took a no-hitter into the sixth inning of the contest until surrendering a single for the only ORU hit. He also gave up just two walks and struck out two over seven innings.
Neubauer leads SUU pitching staff with four wins in eight starts on the year. He has struck out 24 batters over 48 innings for a two-to-one strikeout to walks ratio. He is scheduled to throw the second game of the doubleheader on Friday.
Chase Rezac will be on the hill for SUU on Thursday. Rezac is 2-5 on the year with an ERA of 7.40. He is second on the team with 30 strikeouts.
Kelsey Outram will start game one of Friday's doubleheader. Outram holds the best ERA on the team at 3.41. He is 2-6 overall and has thrown three complete games. Outram has a team-high 34 strikeouts in 63.1 innings of work.
Joe Karlik will end the series for Southern Utah on Saturday. Karlik has posted a 1-2 record in his five starts. Opposing teams are hitting .297 against Karlik, yet the right-hander has yet to surrender a triple or a home run. His 4.94 ERA is the fifth-best on the team.
