Baseball Enters Summit League Play vs. South Dakota State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW Mastodon baseball team will face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a four-game series this weekend that marks the beginning of Summit League play. Game one will be played on Friday, April 6 with first pitch slated for 3 p.m.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS
South Dakota State enters the series with an overall record of 6-15-1. All of their games have been played on the road. The Jackrabbits started the season 0-8 before picking up their first win of the season over Arkansas-Pine Bluff 11-0. SDSU also found success against Southern-Illinois-Edwardsville and Northern Colorado to notch their six wins.
The Jackrabbits have held the upper hand in the all-time series against IPFW. They hold a 20-4 advantage over the Mastodons since the first meeting back in 2006. IPFW won the final meeting of the 2011 season. The 'Dons recorded a 5-4 win on May 20. The game was scheduled for seven innings, but was won by IPFW in the eighth.
Phil Paquette is leading the team with a batting average of .357 (25-for-70). Paquette has played in 20 of 22 games and has got the nod in the starting lineup 14 times. The team's RBI leader is Zach Rhodes. Rhodes has three doubles, three triples and one home run on the year giving him 17 RBI.
The home run leader for South Dakota State is Zach Briggs. He has three on the year with a batting average of .259. Eric Cain is another impact player for theJackrabbits. He has started in 21 games for the club and has a team-high four triples.
The projected starter for Friday's game is Stephen Bougher. Bougher is 3-2 on the year with an ERA of 3.98.
