Men’s Tennis Improves to 3-5 with Two Wins on Friday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's tennis team recorded two 7-0 wins on Friday at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club. The Mastodons defeated Robert Morris in the morning and Chicago State later that evening to improve to 3-5 overall.
The Mastodons went 3-0 in doubles play to grab an early 1-0 lead over Robert Morris. Connor Andrews and Martin Muadi led the charge with an 8-3 win in No. 2 Doubles. No. 1 Doubles featured Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas winning 8-5 and the team of Andres Cobos and Gerard Guell completed the sweep with an 8-4 win in No.3 Doubles.
Jonathan Raa made his season debut in singles action. Raa defeated his opponent in No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-3. Andrews and Cobos increased the IPFW lead with two victories. Andrews won 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 Singles and Cobos went out on top 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in No. 3 Singles.
Daniel Kang kept momentum on IPFW's side as he won 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in No. 1 Singles and the Mastodons cruised to victory with Freitas winning 6-3, 7-6 in No. 5 Singles and Muadi winning 6-2, 7-5 in No. 6 Singles.
Doubles competition was no problem for IPFW as Jonathan Raa and Derek Romer stepped in for their first action of the season to defeat Chicago State 8-1 in No. 3 Doubles action. The top team of Kang and Freitas won 8-3 and the tandem of Muadi and Andrews won No. 2 Doubles 8-2.
Every Mastodon won in straight sets during singles play as Kang locked the top spot 6-1, 6-3. All of the matches nearly finished in order as Cobos won at No. 2 6-1, 6-4 and Andrews took No. 3 6-4, 6-4.
No. 4 Singles was Guell winning 6-2, 6-1 and No. 5 was Freitas winning 6-2, 6-3. Rounding out the action on Friday night was Muadi who won his No. 6 matchup 6-0, 6-2.
