Kansas City Hands IPFW a 4-2 Loss in Men’s Tennis

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's tennis team took a 4-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Club as the Kansas City Kangaroos improved to 5-0 in Summit League action. With the loss, IPFW is now 7-14 overall with a 1-2 mark in the Summit League.
The Mastodons earned the doubles point on Saturday with wins in No. 2 and No. 3 Doubles. Connor Andrews and Martin Muadi tied the series at 1-1 with a 9-7 win in No. 2 Doubles over David Heckler and Abdul Alawadhi. The Roo's were up 1-0 early as Daniel Kang and Joao Freitas were defeated 8-4 at the No. 1 spot.
Jonathan Raa and Andres Cobos won a tiebreaker for a 9-8 win in No. 3 Doubles earning the doubles point for IPFW. They defeated the team of Nino Hasandedic and Tim Akhmedov.
Muadi was the only IPFW student-athlete to record a win in singles competition. He defeated Andrey Smirnov 6-4, 6-2 in No. 5 Singles. UMKC won No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 Singles in straight sets, but Kang took his opponent to three in No. 1 Singles. He was ultimately defeated 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The Mastodons will face the Detroit Titans tomorrow in non-conference action. The match will be held outdoors at the Kachmann Tennis Center unless poor weather conditions force the action inside.
