Men’s Tennis Falls 4-3 vs. Northern Illinois

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW men's tennis team took a tough 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at the Kachmann Tennis Center. With the match tied at 3-3, Dor Amir came up with a 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 win over Daniel Kang in the No. 1 spot to earn the victory.
The doubles point went to the Huskies as Amir and Simon Formont got a huge win in No. 2 Doubles over Martin Muadi and Connor Andrews (9-7). That match was the turning point as each team recorded one doubles win. Kang and Joao Freitas quickly defeated their opponents 8-1 in No. 1 Doubles, but NIU evened the score with an 8-3 win in No. 3 Doubles.
The match stayed close at the start of singles competition with Gerard Guell winning 6-2, 6-0 in No. 6 Singles, but the Huskies fought right back with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Andres Cobos was the next Mastodon to record a victory as he landed a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jovan Zeljkovic in No. 3 Singles. The Huskies would quickly retake the lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Muadi in No. 5 Singles.
Freitas made things interesting with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win in No. 4 Singles over Max Phillips, but Amir won the tiebreaker over Kang to move Northern Illinois overall record to 13-7. With the loss, IPFW is now 7-12.
