Men's Tennis Opens Strong in Northern Kentucky

NORTHERN KENTUCKY INVITATIONAL DAY ONE RESULTS
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Five Mastodons have advanced to the finals of their flights, as the IPFW men's tennis team went a combined 12-2 on the first day of the Northern Kentucky Invitational.
Flight One saw Daniel Kang win 6-3, 6-4 in the opener, before falling in the semifinal.
At Flight Two, Connor Andrews won 6-3, 6-4 in his opening match, before also falling in the semifinals of the flight.
Andres Cobos went a perfect 2-0 on the first day at No. 3 singles, winning 6-2, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, before advancing to the finals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory, and will face off against Lewis' Mate  Srdanovic in the championship match of the flight.
Gerard Guell made quick work of his competition in the fourth flight, winning 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, before knocking out Jack Carney of Northern Kentucky 6-3, 6-0 in the semi's, and will face Joel Stern of Southern Indiana in the flight championship.
In the fifth flight, Martin Muadi overcame a first-set loss to win 1-6, 6-0, 1-0 (0-9) to advance to the semifinals, where he held off Colin Bernier of Dayton 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (0-8),and fill face Aaron Barris in the flight championship tomorrow.
The Mastodons had two competitors in Flight Six, and both went a perfect 2-0 and will face each other for the championship. Jonathan Raa won 6-0, 6-0 in the quarterfinals, before holding out for a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (0-6) win in the semifinals. Newcomer Karl Wangensten-Oye won 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals, and then 6-3, 6-0 in the semi's to earn the right to play his teammate.
Doubles competition, as well as the remainder of the singles matches, will be played on Saturday.
