ABOUT IPFW
The IPFW Mastodon women's soccer squad returns 14 players who started at least two matches a season ago, including players who scored 10 of the team's 12 goals last year. Under first-year head coach Jason Burr, the Mastodons look to improve on their 6-12-1 record from 2013.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW finished its non-conference slate with a 2-8-0 record and opened up Summit League play with a heart-breaking 1-0 loss at South Dakota on Sunday, October 5 after holding the Coyotes scoreless for 85 minutes of the game. The improved Mastodons' defense has held opposing offenses scoreless through 60-plus minutes for two-straight games, capped by allowing a season-low tying one goal at South Dakota. Considering South Dakota entered the game leading the conference with a 2.6 goals-per-game average, the defensive effort by the 'Dons was nothing short of impressive.
The offense has been held at bay over the last couple weeks as they were held scoreless four out of the last five games—all on the road. The return home should be a boost for the attack up front for the Mastodons, who have scored eight of their nine goals this season at Hefner Field. The team should benefit with the next four games coming at home before heading back on the road for its final three regular season games.
Freshman forward Kallianne Mogler has keyed the attack up front in 2014. She is turning in an impressive freshman campaign as she leads the team in assists (4) and points (8) in addition to co-leading the team in goals (2) with junior Rachel Good. Overall, the Mastodons have been balanced on the offensive side of the ball with seven different players registering a goal and nine players collecting at least one point.
Third-year keeper Sam Pavlika continues to improve her numbers in the net each game. She's lowered her goals-against-average to 2.75, while her 73 saves in 2014 currently ranks first in the Summit League. The junior now has 257 career saves and ranks third on the all-time career saves list in program history. She needs just five more to move into second place and is on pace to break the program record of 294 before the end of the season.
SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS
The Jackrabbits posted a 6-5-0 in non-conference play before opening up their Summit League slate with wins over IUPUI and Western Illinois. Both victories—coming on their home field—took game-winning goals, one in the last seconds of regulation and a golden goal in the first minutes of overtime. SDSU now finds itself in first-place in league standings through the first weekend of conference play as they were the only team to go a perfect 2-0-0.
South Dakota State enters the matchup with the Mastodons second in the Summit League in scoring with 19 goals on the year, good for a 1.7 goals-per-game average. That potent offensive attack is led by a trio up front in forwards Diana Potterveld and Shelby Raper and midfielder Alyssa Brazil. The three have accounted for 13 of the Jackrabbits' 19 goals and 11 of 18 assists in 2014. Potterveld holds the team lead in points with 15 as she has collected 4 goals and a conference-best seven assists on the year. With five goals on the season, Brazil ranks first on the team and tied for fourth in the Summit League. Additionally, Potterveld and Brazil rank third and fifth, respectively, in total points in the conference. Overall, seven players have knocked in at least one goal and recorded at least one assist, while a total of nine have tallied at least one point this season.
The Jackrabbits have had two keepers spend significant time in goal for them this year. Fifth-year senior Elisa Stamatakis has spent the majority of time in the net for SDSU, playing in eight games and recording a 1.47 goals-against-average with 18 saves in 610 minutes. Sophomore Nicole Inskeep has contributed in five games, playing 380 minutes with 18 saves and a 2.60 goals-against-average.
South Dakota State is under the direction of head coach Lang Wedemeyer, who is in his 15th season at the helm of the Jackrabbits. Wedemeyer needs just one more win to reach 100 in his Division I career.

South Dakota State and IPFW will meet for the ninth time in series history with all eight previous meetings coming in the last eight-consecutive years.
