FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A 19-0 first-half run put distance between the IPFW and Manchester, as the Mastodon run helped push the hosts to a 74-50 victory - the first in the career of new head coach Jon Coffman.
Mo Evans scored a game-high 15 points while also dishing out a career-best eight assists and picking up three steals. Joe Edwards scored 13 points while Steve Forbes scored a dozen in 16 minutes of work. Two other players - Isaiah McCray and Herbert Graham - each scored eight points. McCray led the team with nine rebounds, as the Mastodons out-rebounded the Spartans 35-to-26 in the game.
IPFW could not pull away from the pesky Spartans, and Manchester held a three-point, 21-18 lead following a Jarod Schrock lay-up with 10:19 to play in the first half.
Over the next six-plus minutes, the Mastodons ran off 19 consecutive points, converting on 7-of-9 shots from the field while nabbing two steals. During that same stretch, the Spartans were 0-for-7 from the field, and missed all four of their three-point attempts.
In all, IPFW closed the first half on a 23-5 run, with the Mastodons taking a 41-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Spartans opened the second half with a pair of free throws; however, a 22-5 Mastodon run gave IPFW a 63-33 lead, and the hosts cruised the rest of the way in the 24-point win.
Schrock scored a team-high 14 points for Manchester, as Matt Brown added 13. Brady Dolezal, the team's leading returning scorer scored six while pulling down a team-best seven rebounds.
IPFW hit 48.2 percent of its shots from the field (27-of-56), and hit 9-of-30 (30.0%) from long range. Manchester was 17-of-47 (36.2%) from the field and 5-of-23 (21.7%) from beyond the arc.
The Mastodons return to action on Monday, November 17 when the team travels to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on the SIUE Cougars in an 8 p.m. ET tip-off.
