Mastodons Blank Leathernecks to Complete Weekend Sweep

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's tennis team won its fourth straight match, and seventh of the team's last eighth, blanking Summit League foe Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon 7-0.
The win improves IPFW to 11-5 on the year, which is tied for the second-most wins in a season since 2006.
The Mastodons opened the match by sweeping through doubles play, earning the point in among the pairs play. Martin Muadi and Gerard Guell won 8-2 at No. 2, before the doubles point was clinched by a win at No. 3 doubles, as Karl Wangensten-Oye and Connor Andrews won 8-3. The IPFW top doubles pair of Andres Cobos and Daniel Kang followed with an 8-5 win.
In singles action, a 6-0, 6-0 win by Muadi at No. 5 put the Mastodons ahead 2-0, before Wangensten-Oye won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.Â
The match was clinched at No. 1 singles, where Kang won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 to set IPFW to a 3-0 advantage.Â
With the match in-hand, IPFW got wins at No. 3 singles, where Guell won 6-0, 6-2, No. 4 singles with an Andrews 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 win, and a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 marathon-match win by Cobos at No. 2 singles.
The Mastodons return to action with a key rivalry battle at home against the IUPUI Jaguars on March 29 at 3 p.m.
