ABOUT IPFW
The IPFW Mastodon women's soccer squad returns 14 players who started at least two matches a season ago, including players who scored 10 of the team's 12 goals last year. Under first-year head coach Jason Burr, the Mastodons look to improve on their 6-12-1 record from 2013.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
Despite a 1-0 loss at home to Valparaiso in the team's last outing at home, the Mastodons' defense turned in its most solid performance of the season, allowing a season-low one goal while holding their opponent scoreless in the first half for the first time this season. Third-year keeper Sam Pavlika made four saves on the night, needing just two more saves to move into third on the all-time career saves list in program history. Pavlika has collected 40 saves with a 3.82 goals-against-average so far this season.
Forwards Kallianne Mogler and Rachel Good were again at the forefront of the offense against the Crusaders, accounting for half the shots by the 'Dons in the game. The freshman and junior, respectively, co-lead the team with two goals apiece, while they have combined for 17 shots and 10 points to pace the Blue and White. Mogler, who has earned a starting spot up front for IPFW, also leads the team with two assists on the year. Six other Mastodons have registered at least one point on the season with Gaby Romo, Taylor Pavlika and Lindsey Swope all collecting two each.
The IPFW offense also welcomes back its two leading scorers from last year in Romo (4G, 1A) and forward Andie Lazzerini (3G, 2A). The sophomore tandem has combined for one goal and one assist so far in 2014. The addition of Taylor Pavlika and the return of Brooke Bishir (2G) has also provided a boost on the offensive side of the ball.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
The RedHawks have gone 3-1 to begin their 2014 campaign, including two wins over power conference members Purdue and Louisville. Miami's 2-1 win over the Boilermakers—a team that qualified for the NCAA tournament a year ago—on Sunday, September 7 was its first in series history. After starting the season with a four-game road slate, the RedHawks will host the Mastodons in their home-opener of the 2014 season.
Through four contests, Miami is averaging 1.25 goals per match while holding a 1.00 goals-against-average. Senior midfielder Kelsey Dinges and junior forward Haley Walter are tied for the team lead with three points on a goal and an assist apiece. The duo combined to score the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win at Louisville when Dinges finished Walter's crossing feed.
Senior goalkeeper Danielle Wiseman has spent all 360 minutes of the season in goal for the RedHawks, giving up just four goals while recording 12 saves and a .750 save-percentage to start her final year.
Miami of Ohio is under the direction of head coach Bobby Kramig, who is in his 18th season at the helm of the RedHawks' women's soccer program. As the only coach in program history, Kramig owns a 185-133-26 record entering the 2014 campaign. The RedHawks are coming off its best season in program history, when they finished second in the MAC with an 11-6-4 overall record in 2013.
