ABOUT IPFW
The IPFW Mastodon women's soccer squad returns 14 players who started at least two matches a season ago, including players who scored 10 of the team's 12 goals last year. Under first-year head coach Jason Burr, the Mastodons look to improve on their 6-12-1 record from 2013.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW traveled to Central Michigan looking for it first road win to open the weekend, but came away on the wrong side of a 2-0 contest against the Chippewas. After allowing two goals in the first half, the Mastodon's defense clamped down and held the home team scoreless for the final 60 minutes of the game. Freshman Taylor Pavlika—who has played on both sides of the ball for IPFW—collected a team-high three shots on the night.
Forwards Kallianne Mogler and Rachel Good continue to be key the offensive attack up-front. The freshman and junior, respectively, are atop the statistical categories for the 'Dons. The pair is tied for the team lead in goals with two a piece, while Mogler is first in both assists (2) and points (6). The freshman has made a big impact early in her inaugural year of collegiate soccer, and IPFW will continue to look to her to create chances up front.
The Blue and White's offense also has its two leading scorers from 2013 in forward Andie Lazzerini (3G, 2A) and midfielder Gaby Romo (4G, 1A). The sophomore tandem has combined for one goal and one assist so far in 2014. In all, eight different Mastodons have registered at least one point in 2014.
Third-year goalkeeper Sam Pavlika has recorded a 3.41 goals-against-average with 52 saves in 2014. The junior recently took over third in program history for career saves and needs just 26 more to move into second all-time. She is also on pace to break the program record by the end of the season.
SCOUTING THE RAMBLERS
The Ramblers have posted a 3-6-0 record in non-conference play heading into the matchup with IPFW at Hefner Field. Most recently, Loyola fell 2-1 at home to Milwaukee on Thursday, September 18, marking the team's third-straight loss after winning 1-0 in overtime against Green Bay on September 7. The Ramblers returned nine starters among 22 lettermen from a squad that went 6-8-6 in 2013.
In 2014, the offense has been led by newcomer Ava Senn-Raemont. The freshman forward/midfielder has netted four goals on nine shots in her first year of collegiate soccer—good for a .44 shot percentage mark. Senior defender Valerie Goyo has complimented the offense attack from the back line, knocking in two goals in seven games played—including the lone goal for the Ramblers in the 2-1 loss to Milwaukee. Overall, Loyola has spread the wealth in the attack as 12 different players have registered at least one point in 2014.
Valerie's twin sister Monica Goyo—a 2013 honorable mention All-Missouri Valley Conference honoree—is a third-year starter in goal for the Ramblers. The senior has spent 801:51 minutes in goal this season, collecting 41 saves while posting a 2.02 goals-against-average.
Loyola of Chicago is under the direction of head coach Barry Bimbi, who is in his 4th season at the helm of the Crusaders. Entering 2014, Bimbi owned a 20-27-9 record in three years.
