ABOUT IPFW
The IPFW Mastodon women's soccer squad returns 14 players who started at least two matches a season ago, including players who scored 10 of the team's 12 goals last year. Under first-year head coach Jason Burr, the Mastodons look to improve on their 6-12-1 record from 2013.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW notched its second win of the season at home on Sunday, September 21 at Hefner Field as they used two first-half goals and strong second-half defense to hold off the Loyola Ramblers 2-1. Freshman forward Kallianne Mogler continues to key the attack up front, assisting on both of the home team's goals in the victory on Sunday afternoon. Mogler delivered perfect balls across the front of the goal to sophomore Mayson Whitman and freshman Kassidy Simpkinks in the 27th and 28th minutes, respectively, to give the 'Dons its largest first-half lead of 2014. While Loyola found the back of the net in the second half to cut the deficit to one, IPFW was able to draw an offsides on what would have been the game-tying goal and then clamped down to secure the win.
Mogler is turning in an impressive freshman campaign as she leads the team in assists (4) and points (8) in addition to co-leading the team in goals (2) with junior Rachel Good. Overall, the Mastodons have been balanced on the offensive side of the ball through the first six weeks of the season with seven different players registering a goal and nine players collecting at least one point. The defense meanwhile, has played well as of late, highlighted by a season-low one goal allowed against Loyola.
Third-year keeper Sam Pavlika continues to improve her numbers in the net each game. She's recorded a 3.09 goals-against-average and 59 saves in 2014. The junior now has 243 career saves and recently overtook third place on the all-time career saves list in program history. She needs just 19 more to move into second place and is on pace to break the program record of 294 before the end of her third season.
The Mastodons are looking for their first road win of the season before they open up Summit League play, also on the road.
