
Men's Tennis Drops First of 2015 Spring Season

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's tennis team fell for the first time during the 2015 spring season, falling to the Illinois State Redbirds by a 6-1 final score at the Empowered Sports Club in Fort Wayne.
Andres Cobos ended the day with an unblemished record on the year, winning his singles match by an 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 score at No. 3 singles, while teaming with Daniel Cardenas to win 6-2 at No. 2 pairs.
IPFW fell 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, before Cobos and Cardenas evened the score with their win at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match was a tight hard-fought battle, with the Illinois State pair topped Carlos do Val and Karl Wangensten-Oye by a slim 7-6 margin, earning the team's doubles point.
The Redbirds opened singles play with wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, taking a 3-0 lead before Cobos picked up the three-set win to put the Mastodons within two at 3-1. Illinois State; however, closed strong with wins at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to clinch the January win.
The Mastodons have a road / home split weekend next weekend, as the team travels to Valparaiso on January 30, before returning to Fort Wayne on January 31 for a 2 p.m. battle with the Youngstown State Penguins starting at 2 p.m. at the Empowered Sports Club.
