
Wangensten-Oye Wins as Mastodons Fall to Crusaders

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Despite a three-set win from Karl Wangensten-Oye at No. 5 singles, the IPFW men's tennis team fell 6-1 to to the Valparaiso Crusaders on January 30.
The loss drops IPFW to 2-2 on the season, while Valparaiso remains undefeated at 2-0.
In doubles, the Crusaders picked up the point after a 6-1 win at No. 1 pairs which was followed by a 6-4 Valparaiso win at No. 3. The No. 2 doubles match featuring IPFW's Daniel Cardenas and Andres Cobos went unfinished with the Crusaders already earning the doubles point.
In singles, the Crusaders picked up straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 1, and No. 3, respectively, to earn the point, as the matches needed extra points at No. 4, No. 6 and No. 5 singles.
Carlos do Val fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) at No. 4 singles for IPFW, while Connor Andrews dropped a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 match at No. 6 singles. Wangensten-Oye's match was the final one to completion, with the Mastodon sophomore winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.
The Mastodons make the retrn trip to Fort Wayne and will face off against the Youngstown State Penguins at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Empowered Sports Club.
