Baseball Sweeps Opening Doubleheader of Season

Shane Trevino was 5-of-8 on the day with three RBI's and a 1.250 slugging percentage. Brock Logan went 2-for-5, while Evan VanSumeren was 3-for-8 at the plate. Evan Miller and Ryan Wells each picked up victories, while Miller struck out six in four and two-thirds of an inning.
In the opener, Alabama A&M squeezed a run across in the bottom of the first inning, before IPFW loaded the bases in the top of the second inning with one out, before Jonathan Valenzuela-Reece hit an RBI groundout, before VanSumeren hit a two-run single that scored Logan and Jackson Boyce.
The Bulldogs knotted the score with two runs in the bottom of the second, before a VanSumeren solo home run in the fourth pushed IPFW back ahead 4-3. An inning and a half later the hosts took a one-run lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
IPFW immediately responded with six runs in the sixth inning, when Logan and Lucas Salerno reached on a walk and a fielding error to open the inning. After a groundout pushed the runners to second and third, Valenzuela-Reece singled home Logan, before VanSumeren singled home Salerno. An error during Brandon Soat's at-bat scored Valenzuela-Reece, before Kendall Whitman drove in two with a double. A Trevino triple provided the sixth and final run of the inning.
After an inning and a half without a hit, the Mastodon offense erupted again with five runs, the first coming on a Whitman single that scored VanSumeren, before Trevino singled home Soat for the innings's second run. A bases-loaded Salerno sacrifice fly scored Greg Kaiser, while a Boyce single chased home Trevino and Logan to give the game its 15-5 final score.
After a scoreless bottom of the eighth inning, the game was called on the account of the ten-run advantage.,
VanSumeren and Trevino were both 3-for-5 at the plate, while VanSumeren and Logan each scored three times. VanSumeren and Whitman drove in four and three runs, respectively, as three others- Trevino, Boyce, and Reece - had two RBI's.
Wells pitched the first six innings of the game, striking out three and walking three. Cody O'Neal pitched the final two innings in relief, striking out two and walking a pair.
The second game - which was played to seven innings - saw the Mastodons strike first in the fourth inning when Kaiser drew a two-out walk and was chased home a batter later with a Trevino double, before scoring on a Brock Logan single.
The Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the fourth with a double and a passed ball, and in the bottom of the fifth Alabama A&M loaded the bases before a groundout ended the threat.
Trevino was 2-for-3 for the game, while scoring and driving in a run.,
Miller struck out six in 4.2 innings of work, walking one and scattering three hits, while Jake Weber struck out three in 2.1 innings, walking one while picking up the save.
The two teams meet up for the final two games of the series starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday afternoon.
