Mastodons Knock a Season-High Hits in Loss

IPFW had at least one hit in all seven innings. Morghyn Neal led the 'Dons with a pair of doubles in four plate appearances. Caitlyn DeLong and Kelly Pevely also had a double on the afternoon. Pevely led the Mastodons with two RBI while DeLong and Neal each added one.
Kaitlyn Biere suffered the loss in the circle for IPFW, allowing seven runs, three earned, in five and two thirds innings. Kaitlin Kowalski came on in relief to pitch a third of an inning while Sarah Lazarowich pitched the final inning.
The Raiders opened the game scoring a run with two outs in the first inning. In the second, Wright State added a two-run home run, scored on an IPFW error, and a groundout.
The Mastodons got on the scoreboard in the third with four runs in the inning. After Jenna Balthazor drew a one-out walk, Emily Olszewski singled, and Neal followed with a double to bring home the first run. DeLong sent what would have been a sacrifice fly to right, but was dropped by the Raider fielder, allowing Olszewski to score. With two away in the inning, Pevely delivered a 3-2 pitch into the left center gap, scoring the final two runs.
Wright State added a run in the fifth and sixth before scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, DeLong doubled down the left field line with two outs, but the Mastodons were unable push a final run across.
IPFW returns to action for the final day of the Hoosier Classic on March 15 to take on Bowling Green and Indiana beginning at 10:00 a.m.
