Men's Tennis Rolls Past Grace
4/3/2015 8:41:00 PM | Men's Tennis
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's tennis team dropped just six combined games, sweeping past the Grace Lancers 7-0 on Friday evening.
"Obviously this has been a challenging week for the team," said assistant coach Jonathan Batuello. "I'm proud that the team came out and didn't let that ruin their concentration in this match, and had an impressive performance in winning."
In doubles, the Mastodons picked up an immediate win at No. 3 pairs as the team of Karl Wangensten-Oye and Jonathan Raa won by default due to Grace bringing just five players. The No. 1 team of Gerard Guell and Martin Muadi won 8-1, before the No. 2 squad of Connor Andrews and Derek Romer won 8-0.
Muadi benefited from the lack of Grace players to pick up a default win at No. 6 singles, putting the Mastodons ahead 2-0 in the team match. Wangensten-Oye (No. 5) and Guell (No. 1) followed with straight-set 6-0, 6-0 wins to secure the Mastodons the team victory.
Andres Cobos picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, before Daniel Cardenas won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. Carlos do Val closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 pairs, securing the sweep for the Mastodons.
IPFW returns to the court on Sunday, April 6, when the team hosts Northern Illinois and Indiana Tech.
