
Tennis Splits Weekend Finale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's tennis team split its Easter Sunday doubleheader, falling 5-2 to the Northern Illinois Huskies before sweeping the Indiana Tech Warriors 7-0.
In the opener, the Huskies picked up the doubles point following a 6-4 win at No. 1 before a 6-3 win at No. 3 secured the point for the visitors.
In singles, the Huskies picked up the first four points, winning at No. 1 (6-2, 6-2), No. 4 (6-1, 6-2), No. 3 (6-4, 6-2), and No. 6 (6-3, 6-2).
The Mastodons responded to close the match, as Andres Cobos won 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Martin Muadi won a fifth-set tiebreaker to secure the last match of the day at No. 5 singles, winning 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8).
After falling in the tough battle to open the day, the Mastodons rolled in the nightcap, quickly taking the doubles point when Cobos and Cardenas picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2, followed by an 8-5 win by Connor Andrews and Derek Romer at No. 3 pairs. For good measure, the No. 1 doubles team of Gerard Guell and Muadi won 8-5.
In singles, Jonathan Raa picked up a straight set, 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, before Cobos won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 to improve to 2-0 on the day in singles.
The match was clinched with a Daniel Cardenas 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, as the team added onto the score with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 5 from Karl Wangensten-Oye. Muadi pulled out a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, before Guell completed the shutout with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 pairs.
The team, which has its final five regular season matches at home, host the Omaha Mavericks on Friday, April 10, as Denver and Rose-Hulman battle with the Mastodons on Saturday, April 11.
