Baseball Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Bison
5/1/2015 9:14:00 PM | Baseball
Greg Kaiser was 2-for-3 for IPFW, as Shane Trevino and Shannon Baker were each 2-for-4. Brock Logan drove in three with a three-run home run in the fifth inning.
North Dakota jumped out quickly, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
IPFW cut the gap in half in the top of the third inning when Jackson Boyce and Brandon Soat picked up back-to-back one-out walks, before Kendall Whitman drove in Boyce two batters later to take the NDSU lead to 2-1.
The Bison immediately responded with a run in the bottom of the third, and a run in the bottom of the fourth took the margin to three at 4-1.
Soat opened the fifth inning when he reached on a fielding error before back-to-back strikeouts put to outs on the board. Trevino singled to put two runners on before Logan hit a three-run home run over the wall in right field to tie the score at four runs apiece.
That would be all of the IPFW scoring in the game, as NDSU scored once in the bottom of the fifth - the eventual game-winning run - and once again in the sixth to give the game its 6-4 final score.
Trevor Storie picked up the loss, pitching four and a third inning, giving up nine hits and five runs while walking three and striking out one. Cody O'Neal pitched the final three and two-thirds of an inning, striking out three batters and giving up four hits and one run.
The teams return to action on Saturday in a 2 p.m. ET first pitch at the Newman Outdoor Field.
