MURRAY, Ky. – Murray State swept a non-league doubleheader from Fort Wayne on Saturday (March 3). Travis Upp knocked in two runs in game one and had three hits in game two for the Mastodons.
Game One – Murray State 16, Fort Wayne 4 (seven innings)
Murray State scored five runs in the first, seven in the fifth and four in the sixth to take the opener over the 'Dons.
Trenton Stoner scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning for the 'Dons. The seventh inning saw Travis Upp knock in two of Fort Wayne's three runs in the inning.
Stoner finished with a pair of hits in the game. Spencer Strobel started for the 'Dons. He allowed five runs. His record is 0-1. Brock Logan didn't allow a run in 3.1 innings of work.
Blake Clynes threw five innings to get the win for Murray State. Clynes is 1-0. Grand Wood and Jake Slunder each knocked in three runs for the Racers in the contest.
Game Two – Murray State 15, Fort Wayne 4 (seven innings)
Another five-run first lifted Murray State to a game two victory.
The 'Dons recorded 15 hits in the game. Shannon Baker and Upp each had three hits in the game. Baker and Brandon Yoho each knocked in two runs. The Fort Wayne offense stranded 10 Mastodons.
Damian Helm drops to 1-2 with the loss. Jake Jones is 1-0 after earning the win for the Racers.
Murray State improves to 6-5. Fort Wayne falls to 3-6. The 'Dons and Racers will play a single game on Sunday.
