Denny Homers but Mastodons Drop Series Finale

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne softball team dropped its series finale to South Dakota State 11-2 on Sunday afternoon (April 22).
Stephanie Hanic led the Mastodons as she was a perfect 2-for-2 at the dish. Morganne Denny hit a home run and finished with two RBIs. Jenna Balthazor and Demitra Burns also collected a hit for the 'Dons.
The lone runs of the game for the Mastodons came in the bottom of the second. After a leadoff walk to Maria Palmegiani, Denny stepped in and with a 1-1 count sent the ball over the center field wall for her fifth home run of the season.
South Dakota State scored four runs in the second and five more in the third. The Jacks tacked on one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Mastodon starting pitcher Bailey Benefiel took the loss in three innings of work. Addie Benham came on to pitch the final two innings in relief.
Fort Wayne returns to the diamond when it travels to North Dakota State for a Summit League series April 28 and 29.
