Mastodons Drop Pair of Games to Bison

FARGO, N.D. - The Fort Wayne softball team dropped a doubleheader to open its series at North Dakota State, with the final score 5-0 in both games.
Lauren Watson led the Mastodons going 3-for-5 at the plate. Lacey Wilzbacher collected a pair of hits on the day. Morganne Denny and Demitra Burns each tallied a hit.
North Dakota State scored a run in the first and third innings of game one, before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Fort Wayne had runners on in the third and sixth innings. The 'Dons got a two-out single from Watson in the third. They would put a runner in scoring position in the sixth after back-to-back singles from Watson and Wilzbacher.
Bailey Benefiel threw a complete game for the Mastodons in the circle. She struck out eight batters while allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits.
The Bison opened the scoring in game two with two runs in the bottom of the third. They would add a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
The Mastodons put runners on base in sixth of the seven frames. With two outs in the top of the third, the 'Dons got back-to-back hits from Watson and Burns to put runners on the corners, but the next batter was retired to end the inning.
Addie Benham threw a complete game, allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits with a strikeout.
The two teams wrap up their series tomorrow, April 29, at noon ET.
