FARGO, N.D. – Fort Wayne baseball lost a 10-inning decision on Saturday (May 12) afternoon to North Dakota State 5-4. All nine starters in the game reached base for the Mastodons.
Senior Damian Helm finished with a no-decision. He gave up eight hits and two runs with two strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched. He didn't allow a run until the eighth. Kevin Folman threw a 1-2-3 10th for NDSU to earn the win and move his record to 4-3. Fort Wayne reliever Dalton O'Boyle (0-1) suffered the loss.
Fort Wayne grabbed a 4-0 advantage thanks to three runs in the second and one in the fifth. Zak Kellogg, Garrett Mohler and Trenton Stoner each had an RBI in the third. A Brock Logan single scored Shannon Baker in the fifth.
The 'Dons took this 4-0 lead to the eighth. NDSU used a double, walk and a double with two outs in the eighth to make it a 4-2 game.
A one-out, two-run home run by Matt Elsenpeter by the Bison in the ninth tied the game. The 10th saw the Bison win it. Logan Busch doubled with two outs before Carter Thompson doubled to end the game.
Fort Wayne recorded nine hits on the day, with eight of nine starters earning a hit. Jacob Dickson had a pair of hits. Dickson, Baker and Mohler had doubles.
Fort Wayne falls to 10-33 (6-20). NDSU improves to 21-22 (11-13). The two clubs will close the three-game series on Sunday.
