NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Each Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country student-athlete set new season 5K best on Friday (Sept. 28) afternoon at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
Emma Rafuse broke the 17 minute mark with a third place time of 16:58.87. She was less than eight seconds behind the winner as only Linda Cheruiyot (16:51.54) and Winny Koech (16:53.25) of UTEP bested Rafuse. This is Rafuse's second career sub 17-minute 5K performance. It is just the sixth time in Summit League history a student-athlete has run a sub 17-minute 5K time. She now has three times on the all-time Summit League 5K top 10 list.
