Baseball Hosts Western Illinois With Senior Day Set For Saturday

The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team will close out the 2019 season this weekend with Western Illinois making a visit.Â

Scouting the Mastodons (6-43, 1-26 Summit League): Garrett Mohler knocked a two-run home run during Tuesday's midweek game against the Toledo Rockets. Mohler now has six home runs on the season and leads the team with a .298 batting average as well as RBI (26). Alec Brunson and Brandon Yoho are tied for second on the team with 42 hits. Robert Young III and Jack Lang each had two hits in the non-league game, while Dylan Stewart added a two-RBI double. On the mound, Duane Miller threw a scoreless inning. He hasn't allowed a run in five straight appearances.
Scouting the Fighting Leathernecks (20-28, 14-13 Summit League): The Fighting Leathernecks went 2-1 against first-place Omaha last weekend in Macomb. The only loss for the Fighting Leathernecks was in 10 innings and by one run with a final score of 4-3. Drue Galassi leads the team with a .305 batting average, 51 hits, nine home runs and 43 RBI on the season. Kevin Raisbeck follows closely behind with a .300 batting average and 48 hits. On the mound, Drake Javin leads the team with a 3.83 ERA on 91.2 innings pitched.

In The Rankings: Two 'Dons are in the top 10 in the Summit League in home runs. Garrett Mohler is tied for sixth with six and Andrew Lawvere is tied for eighth with five home runs.
Senior Day: The Mastodons will be celebrating senior day on Saturday. Purdue Fort Wayne's two seniors Shane Odzark and Brandon Yoho will be honored prior to first pitch. Â
Vs. Cancer Day: Friday will be Purdue Fort Wayne's annual Vs. Cancer day. The Mastodons team up with Vs. Cancer, a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, to raise money for children with brain tumors. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by clicking on this link.
Series History: Western Illinois leads the series 36-28. Last year, the Mastodons took two games off of the Fighting Leathernecks during their home series. The Mastodons won 3-1 and 6-1. This season Western Illinois defeated Purdue Fort Wayne 14-2, 4-2 and 10-0 at Macomb in April.
