Women's Cross Country Earns Fourth at Home

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country earned a fourth place finish at the Rumble in the Fort 5K at home on Friday (September 13).
Sophia Hirzel took home a ninth-place finish and a time of 19:55.40, three whole seconds faster than her time at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener at Bowling Green State University to start the season. Freshman Makaila Groves finished in 15th with a time of 20:27.60. Kathy Potter was not too far behind Groves and placed 17th (20:36.50). Elana Kayser (38th, 22:37.40), Kenzie Smith (44th, 23:48.70) and Lauren Morales (49th, 24:43.70) capped the day for the Mastodons.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished with 106 points. Winner of the meet for the women's was Wright State with 27 points.
Coming up for the Mastodons is the Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Chicago, Ill. on September 28 at 10:50 a.m. The 'Dons will be competing at Loyola for the first time.
