Baseball Looks to Stay Hot at Miami (Ohio) This Weekend

OXFORD, Ohio – The Mastodons will take their 3-1 start to Ohio this weekend to face the Miami Redhawks in a three-game series. Note the first game of the series has been moved up two hours to 3 p.m.

Scouting the Mastodons (3-1): The 'Dons opened the season with three wins at Longwood. The 'Dons hit .301 as a team in the series with 12 different student-athletes picking up a hit. As a team the 'Dons put together a .416 on-base percentage for the weekend. They were 12-of-12 in stolen base attempts. Trenton Stoner, Jack Lang, Aaron Chapman, Robert Young III, Garett Lake and Garrett Mohler each had four hits or more in the series. The Mastodon pitching staff saw Tyler Kissinger, William Wentz, Cade Willard and Sean Ferguson each not allow a run in their time on the mound.
Scouting the Redhawks (0-3): Miami opened the season with a three-game series at Texas A&M. The Redhawks were swept by the SEC member Aggies 17-1, 9-2, 6-2. Landon Stephens hit .364 in the series with four hits including a home run for the Redhawks.
Series History: Miami leads 4-2. Only three of the meetings have come with the 'Dons as a Division I member, and in those games the 'Dons are 2-1.
'Dons Turn Two: The 'Dons picked up both Summit League honors this week. Tyler Kissinger was named the Pitcher of the Week. He started and went 6.1 innings shutout innings in an 11-0 victory over Longwood on Saturday. He struck out a career-high eight batters and limited the Lancers to a .136 batting average. Jack Lang was named the Player of the Week. He hit .429 with six hits, five RBI and four runs scored to pick up the Player of the Week Award. He had an on-base percentage of .500 thanks to two walks. He also stole two bases. Lang didn't commit a single error in 18 chances at shortstop. He had a career-high three hits in game two and four at Longwood.
