‘Dons Score Eight Runs in Loss at Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Dylan Stewart hit his first career home run for the Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team in an 18-8 loss at Miami (Ohio) on Sunday (Feb. 23) afternoon.
The Mastodons had 11 hits in the game including five for extra bases. Garett Lake and Stewart each recorded two hits.
Purdue Fort Wayne took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Aaron Chapman and Jack Lang scored the runs. Miami scored five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The 'Dons scored two more runs in the second to make it a 5-4 game on Stewart's home run that knocked in Travis Upp. Miami then added three runs in the bottom of the second and three more in the third.
Garrett Mohler had a 2-RBI double in the fifth and Drew Reich added a 2-RBI triple in the seventh to close out the offense for the Mastodons.
Will Vogelgesang finished with three hits, four RBIs and five runs for Miami.
Tyler Kissinger took the loss for the 'Dons. He is now 1-1. Logan Schmitt tossed three innings in relief to get the victory.
Mohler and Chapman each moved their hitting streaks to seven games.
Miami improves to 3-3. The 'Dons are now 3-4. Purdue Fort Wayne is at New Mexico State in non-league play on Friday night.
