NMSU's Nick Gonzales recorded five home runs on the day. He had two in the first game and three in the second.
Game One – New Mexico State 19, Purdue Fort Wayne 5
The Mastodons led 3-0 after the top of the first. Each of the first three in the lineup, Chapman, Jack Lang and Garett Lake scored in the frame. Chapman opened the game with a double to left.
NMSU responded with one in the bottom of the first but opened it up with a seven spot in the bottom of the second.
Chapman, Lang, Garrett Mohler and Drew Reich each had two hits in the game. Reich scored twice.
Chase Phelps took the loss. He is 1-2 after 2.0 innings of work. Mohler pitched a scoreless ninth for the 'Dons.
Austin Duffy knocked in four for the Aggies.
Game Two - New Mexico State 14, Purdue Fort Wayne 5
Purdue Fort Wayne scored one in the first on a Lake single to knock in Lang. In the third, Lang and Andrew Lawvere each knocked in a run. Lawvere's RBI came with two outs thanks to a single that scored Chapman.
NMSU scored twice in the third and then added eight in the fourth inning.
Lawvere added a home run in the eighth inning. It knocked in Mohler. Lawvere and Lake each had three hits in the game.
Tyler Kissinger is now 1-2 after receiving the loss. Trevor Armstong threw the final 4.1 innings.
Chris Barraza (2-0) earned the win for NMSU with 5.0 innings of work.
The Aggies (11-1) and Mastodons (3-7) will close out the four-game series on Sunday with a single game.
