Mastodons Return To Carmel, Ind. For Horizon League Cross Country Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne men's and women's cross country teams travel to Carmel, Ind. to compete in the 2021 Horizon League Cross Country Championships. The men's race will be an 8K with the women running a 6K.
The last time the Mastodons competed was back on Saturday Oct. 16 at the Evansville Invitational in Evansville, Ind. Both the men's and women's teams took first place at Saturday's race. The men's team was led by Andrew Whitinger, who placed in first with a time of 25:52.3. The women's team was Madison King, who placed in first with a time of 21:41.9. Both times by Whitinger and King are good for top 10 all time in program history.
On the men's side, Horizon League foes IUPUI and Youngstown State are ranked 11th and 12th in the Great Lakes Region. On the women's side, Youngstown State is ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region.
This will be the Mastodons' second Horizon League Championships, but the first in the traditional season of the fall after last season's was held in the spring. The men finished seventh last year while the women took eighth. Madison King took sixth overall for the women. Andrew Whitinger took 22nd last season.
In the 2021 preseason polls, the men's cross country team was picked to finish sixth out of 12 teams, and the women's team was picked to finish seventh out of 11 teams.
The Purdue Fort Wayne cross country teams will conclude its season on Friday, Nov. 12 at the Great Lakes Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
