FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Purdue Fort Wayne cross country teams travel to Evansville, Ind. to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 12. The women's race will be a 6K. The men's race will be a 10K.
The NCAA regional meet determines who will compete at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla.
Thirty-one teams will get to compete in the cross country national championships. The top two scoring teams from each of the nine regions get an automatic bid into the championships, while 13 at-large teams will also be granted entry.
After the teams have been determined, an additional 38 individuals per gender will compete at the individual national championships. Among individuals not selected as members of qualifying teams in the process above, the top four finishers at each regional meet are automatically selected. Each must have finished within the top 25 of the region. An additional two athletes will be selected among the nations pool.
This will be the Mastodons' second meet at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course this season. Both Mastodon teams won on Oct. 16 at the Evansville Invitational.
The last time the Mastodons competed was back on Oct. 30th at the Horizon League Cross Country championships. The men placed seventh out of 11 teams and the women placed ninth out of 12 teams.
Leading the way for the men's team was Andrew Whitinger, who placed seventh overall. Madison King led the way for the women's team, and finished in fifth place. Both Whitinger and King received First Team All-Horizon League honors.
