DMR Squad Places Third on Day One of Championships

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - At the conclusion of day one for the 2021 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Purdue Fort Wayne distance medley relay squad highlighted the day by earning a spot on the podium on Friday (Feb. 26) at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Jarred Neff, Cory Waldron, Kehinde Oladapo and Husam Saleh made their way to a third place finish in the DMR with a time of 10:25.30. The team featured two freshmen and two sophomores.
Freshman Nathan Mills led the way for the Mastodons in the 5000 meter run and finished with a time of 15:35.47, earning 17th. Andrew Whitinger was up next for the 'Dons in 19th with a time of 15:37.89. Freshmen Nicholas Mills (25th, 16:09.96), Drake Kropf (29th, 16:43.94) and Oneel Occenat (30th, 17:22.06) rounded out Purdue Fort Wayne.
Asher Walden threw a mark of 14:01m, earning him a 13th place finish in the weight throw. Aaron Martin had a mark of 12.08m and placed 15th.
In the first four events for the men's heptathlon, Elijah Merida is in third place with 2,481 points. Merida competed in the 60 meter dash (7.28), the long jump (6.43m), the shot put (9.60m) and had a mark of 1.71m in the high jump portion. Logan Alexander is currently in ninth with 2,204 points and Conner Bayne is in 11th with 1,821 points.
The Mastodons ended the day in fifth place overall with six points. Purdue Fort Wayne will head into the second day of competition on Saturday (Feb. 27) at 9 a.m. ET with the remainder of the heptathlon which consists of the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1000 meter run.
