INDIANAPOLIS – The Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team fell in a non-league game at Butler on Saturday (March 13) afternoon 2-0.
The Mastodons had a runner on base in each of the first five innings except for the second. Zac Baden doubled with one out in the third but was stranded. A leadoff walk in the fourth and a one-out walk in the fifth also didn't turn into runs.
In the seventh, the 'Dons put runners at the corners with two outs but stranded both runners. The Mastodons had a golden chance in the eighth. Zac Baden opened the inning with a single before Jack Lang walked. They moved to second and third on a double steal. However, three straight outs followed to end the inning. Lang represented the tying run as Butler scored both runs of the game in the fifth with two outs.
Cameron Boyd took the loss and is now 0-3. Boyd finished with a line of five hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Alex Evenson threw the final 2.0 innings and didn't allow a run.
Jack Myers started for the Bulldogs and is now 1-0 after throwing 7.0 scoreless innings. Jack Pilcher threw the ninth for the save.
Baden finished with two hits and a stolen base for the 'Dons. Garett Lake and Trenton Stoner each added a hit.
