Two innings later, it was nearly replicated to a T, as Swart singled, then advanced on a wild pitch. She was advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Mullaney, then Stansbury brought her home.
In the second, the 'Dons got another run on the board after Kyndell Ethridge tripled to right field then Rachel Everson singled to score her.
NKU scored a run in the second, but the difference came in the third, when the Norse scored six. Most of that damage was done with one out.
Lauren McConnell (1-5) threw three innings with a pair of strikeouts. Jadelyn Johnson threw three innings with two K's as well. Faith Howard (1-3) got the win after six innings of work.
Game 2, Mastodons 1, Norse 0
In the nightcap, it looked as though the Norse had luck on their side, as they took a perfect game into the fifth inning. Kennedy Steele broke up the chance for perfection by drawing a walk in the top of the fifth, but nothing came of it.
The only run of the contest came in the sixth inning. Lexi Smalarz dropped a bunt to the pitcher and beat the tag at first to vanquish NKU's chance at a no-hitter. Mullaney doubled to left center to score Smalarz, breaking the 0-0 stymie.
The Mastodons had two more singles in the top of the seventh from Ethridge and Steele.
Shaina Eyre threw the seven-inning shutout, fanning two in the process. She was able to strand seven Norse on base, including three in the first inning. Eyre improved to 5-10 with the win. Madisyn Eads fell to 1-2 for NKU.
With the split, the Mastodons move to 7-20, 6-17 Horizon League while Northern Kentucky goes to 8-20, 7-13. These two teams will meet again tomorrow (Saturday, April 17) for an 11 a.m. start.
