Whitinger Leads 'Dons With Record Finish on Day One

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Andrew Whitinger set a new school record in the 5000 meter run on Friday (April 2) for the Purdue Fort Wayne men's track and field team at the Hilltopper Relays at Western Kentucky University.
Whitinger finished the 5000 meter run in third place with a new school record time of 14:59.43. Freshman Drake Kropf was in 11th with a time of 16:05.55 while Oneel Occenat finished in 14th (16:36.19).
In the long jump, Luke Beehler led the way in second place with a mark of 6.64m. Lane Hawkins tied the Purdue Fort Wayne school record in the high jump with a mark of 1.95m, earning a fifth place finish. Austin Dove was in seventh (1.85m) and Cain Hohne tied for ninth (1.80m).
Garrett Anglemeyer led the Mastodons in the shot put and threw a mark of 13.25m, placing eighth overall. Anglemeyer also competed in the hammer throw and finished in 15th with a mark of 37.78m. Asher Walden was not far behind in 17th and had a mark of 37.30m while Aaron Martin was in 18th (36.98m).
Purdue Fort Wayne will continue on to day two on Saturday (April 3) at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex. The second day of competition will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's discuss.
