Jade Johnson Throws Complete Shutout Against Titans

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball team picked up a win in Saturday's (April 16) doubleheader against the Detroit Mercy Titans. The Mastodons fell in a home run derby in game one, but got a complete game shutout from Jadelyn Johnson in game two.
GAME 1 | Detroit Mercy 11, Purdue Fort Wayne 10
There were five combined home runs in the opening game, with the wind pushing toward left field all day. Purdue Fort Wayne got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely.
Sophomore Alyson Quinlan (0-4) got the ball to start for Purdue Fort Wayne and took the loss. Lauren McConnell was a bright spot for the Mastodons, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, with no walks and a strikeout.
Taryn Jenkins led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 3-for-5 in the ballgame with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Sonia Solis went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer. Brooke Wintlend was the third Mastodon with a home run.
Detroit Mercy had a big third inning to put the 'Dons in a hole, trailing 8-0. Purdue Fort Wayne hit two home runs in the third, however to cut halfway into the lead.
The Titans got two more runs in the fourth with a two-run jack, but the 'Dons responded with a three-run fourth. Jenkins hit a two-RBI double and Thais Uyema scored Jenkins off a single.
Detroit Mercy got another run in the fifth before Wintlend's two-run homer to left field cut the deficit to 11-9.
The Mastodons nearly completed the comeback in the seventh. They scored Emma McMillan on a double from Brayden Lickey. The 'Dons had the winning run on first when Jenkins singled, but she was stranded there.

Jadelyn Johnson was dealing in game two, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead the Mastodons over the Titans.
Johnson (1-4) went the distance for Purdue Fort Wayne (7-30, 6-11), only walking one and striking out two in the one-hour and 15-minute contest. She only faced 25 batters in the game, five of which came in the second inning.
The Mastodons took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first and only time. Purdue Fort Wayne plated two runs off of Detroit Mercy pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of McMillan, the other off a single from Camryn Mosher.
