Purdue Fort Wayne Never Trails in 5-2 Victory Over IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS - The Purdue Fort Wayne softball took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 5-2 victory against the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday (April 9).
Senior Shaina Eyre (2-10) started in the circle and picked up the win for Purdue Fort Wayne (5-26, 4-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing four walks and striking out six.
Emma McMillan led the way offensively for the Mastodons, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and three RBIs. Thais Uyema chipped in a 1-for-1 effort for Purdue Fort Wayne with two walks.
The Mastodons got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Purdue Fort Wayne scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of McMillan.
The Jaguars failed to push any runs across before the Mastodons built on their lead in the fourth inning. Uyema came across to score the lone run of the inning for Purdue Fort Wayne, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Mastodons.
IUPUI narrowed Purdue Fort Wayne's lead to 4-2 before the Mastodons stretched the advantage to 5-2 in the sixth inning. The Mastodons pushed across a run on McMillan's two-out RBI double. The score remained 5-2 for the rest of the game, as Purdue Fort Wayne held on for the win.
